Will I Lose Too Much Weight and Become Sickly if I Start Eating Paleo

Will I Lose Too Much Weight and Become Sickly if I Start Eating Paleo?

There are two sides to every coin. As much as the paleo diet has been vaunted as being a fantastic diet with numerous health benefits, there are some people who have not had a very good time with it.

In most cases, those who adopted the paleo diet and suffered adverse effects either did not follow the diet properly or they coupled it with a few other things such as intermittent fasting or a hard exercise program.

The paleo diet is more than just a diet. It is a total lifestyle overhaul as far as your eating habits are concerned. You will not be able to eat the same foods that you were used to. You will most probably have to cook your own meals and bring them along with you unless, you can find paleo eating places.

Many people suffer sugar cravings and hunger pangs when they go on the paleo diet. They crave the sweet desserts, the oily comfort foods, the salty French fries, etc. They will miss everything that they have been eating for years. This can be highly stressful, depressing and may even make the individual angry.

When the body stops getting the unhealthy food that it was used to, it will start a process of detoxification. It will try to excrete all the stored toxins and other unhealthy substances in the body. During this time, the person may become sick, develop ulcers, etc.

It may seem that the paleo diet is making the person sick. In reality, the reverse is true. The body is getting stronger and healthier. The sickness that is “coming out” was already in the body to begin with. Thanks to the paleo diet, the body is transforming itself into a healthier specimen.

Once the body is completely detoxified, you will feel “lighter” and more energetic. You will feel more positive and happy. The process of detoxification can last anywhere from a week to even a month, depending on how poor your food choices were.

Whatever the case, you can rest assured that the body is just adapting and you will get better after detoxification. Do be patient.

Some people may experience extreme weight loss while on the paleo diet. If you are experiencing fast weight loss, you need to ask yourself a few questions.

Are you overweight or obese? If you are, the paleo diet is so effective that your body is burning its fat stores rapidly for fuel since it doesn’t have excess carbs to tap into. Furthermore, the carbohydrates consumed on a paleo diet are not as starchy. So, it is normal to shed the fat rapidly.

If you are not overweight, are you training too hard? Generally, it would be a good idea to tone down your training in the initial stages of the paleo diet. Give your body some time to adapt to the paleo diet. If you are doing bouts of endurance training and high-intensity circuits, there may not be enough fuel in your body.

It will resort to burning its fat stores rapidly to meet the energy demands.

Another thing that many paleo dieters do is that they combine the paleo diet with intermittent fasting. This will lead to rapid fat loss because the body is in a fasted state for up to 16 hours a day.

Do not push yourself too hard too soon. First, get used to the paleo diet. You will be able to maintain a healthy and fit body with the paleo diet alone. There really is no need for intermittent fasting unless you’re trying to get your bodyfat percentage into the single digits. However, this mostly done by competitive bodybuilders and it’s not really healthy.

Adopt the paleo diet to be healthy. Don’t overdo it and get too extreme with it. Moderation is the key. If all these tips don’t help, you should consult a doctor to see if you’re experiencing nutrient deficiencies on the paleo diet.

Nothing is perfect for everybody and the paleo diet just may not be for you. You will need to discover this for yourself.
